Care Instructions

All fine jewellery is delicate by nature. The surface finish of new rings will begin to evolve with wear. It's normal to see small marks on your ring as it makes contact with objects (often most noticeable on brand new rings during the first weeks of wear).

Avoiding impact, pressure, chemicals and extreme temperatures is essential for fine jewellery care. Gold, gemstones, and even diamonds can be damaged by improper care.

When putting your ring on/off: Always grasp your ring by the band, not the setting. If your ring is feeling tight, use soap and water.

Remove your ring during activities/situations such as:

  • All exercise and sports

  • Cycling

  • Walking a dog

  • Washing dishes

  • Gardening

  • House cleaning

  • Moving furniture

  • During work (If you have an active job)

  • Sleeping (Your setting can be under significant pressure without your awareness. This is especially important for slim rings and those with only one connection point.)

  • Bathing, swimming, hot tubs (pool/spa chemicals cause metals to become brittle)

  • Horseback riding

  • Playing catch

  • Art/craft projects

  • Any activity which could result in an impact to your ring

  • Extreme temperatures and pressure

  • Chemicals, such as bleach, ammonia, chlorine, household cleaners (chemicals cause metals to become brittle)

  • When applying creams and lotions, such as moisturizers and sunscreens

Check Centre Stone Tension Regularly

Centre stones can be loosened by a single accidental impact. To ensure that your stone is tight, gently tap it with a pin and watch for movement. A loose stone often makes a ‘clicking’ sound when the ring is shaken. If a stone is loose, immediately refrain from wearing your ring until it has been professionally re-tensioned.

Accent Diamond Setting

Due to its delicate nature, pavé and small accent diamond settings require extra diligent care. The tiny, handmade prongs holding each diamond can be damaged by a single impact, or continuous abrasion, which wears away the metal. Pressure (such as wearing a ring during weight lifting, cycling or other heavy gripping) can bend or stretch the band, which loosens the settings. Should an accent stone come loose, immediately refrain from wearing your ring until it has been repaired (as adjacent diamonds are likely also loose).

Rings with One Connection Point + Ultra Slim

Rings commissioned with an ultra slim band and/or only one connection point between the central stone and band (ie. no shoulders) are extra delicate in nature. Diligent care must be taken as detailed above.

Rose Gold + Platinum

Rose gold and platinum are softer than all other fine metals. Pieces made with rose gold or platinum require extra diligent care, as they are prone to damage/ signs of wear.

Gemstones

Gemstones, including sapphires, emeralds, rubies, alexandrite and all other non-diamonds are softer and require diligent care. Gemstones are susceptible to scratching and damage during wear. Ensure to wear gemstone jewellery gently, keep free from chemicals and clean only with non-abrasive solutions. Due to their thickness, gemstones are more prone to loosening than diamonds.

Rose Cuts

Due to the shape thickness of rose cuts, they can be more prone to loosening and stone damage.

Plain & Textured Bands

The surface finish of all new rings will begin to evolve from first wear. It's normal to see small marks on your ring and/or fading of the metal's finish as it makes contact with objects. This is most noticeable on brand new rings during the first weeks of wear. Over time, ring surfaces develop a patina that many people love so much, they opt not to refinish them during their future servicing.

Ultrasonic Cleaners

If desired, we recommend only occasional use of at-home ultrasonic machines, as they can cause damage and/or stone loosening of prong set jewellery. Always ensure your jewellery is suspended by a hanger or in a basket, never sitting on the bottom. Overuse of ultrasonic cleaners can lead to stone loosening/loss. They can also damage jewellery making contact with the interior of the machine during use. Ultrasonics can damage delicate jewellery and gemstones.

Here's a great way to clean your fine jewellery (this method is suitable for gold and platinum jewelry set with diamonds or sapphires.  Please enquire for all other gemstones):

  1. Place a dollop of dish liquid in a bowl

  2. Pour a cup of warm water over mild dish liquid and mix

  3. Place your ring in the solution for 15-20 minutes

  4. Gently scrub the underside of your stones with a soft bristle toothbrush

  5. Rinse in warm water

  6. Repeat steps 1-5 if necessary
